Dutch dinner rolls (Giraffe bread)

I love to bake bread...if you can't tell already... I think there is something very therapeutic about kneading a dough, the smell of fresh baked bread filling the entire house, the taste of it...the whole deal.

Today I am going to share with you this delicious bread roll recipe which I found across the internet and its a dutch dinner roll and by far it is the best dinner roll I have made...and believe me I have made many kinds of dinner rolls.

What makes it unique is the way it looks (close to a giraffe design), the sweet crunchy topping and the smell of the bread it self while its baking in the oven. It is so easy to make and this is my cooking class or step by step class for this month.

Dutch Dinner Rolls (Giraffe bread)
Ingredients:

275 ml warm water
1 tbsp yeast
450 grams flour (I used all purpose)
2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
2 tbsp vegetable oil

For topping:
3/4 tbsp yeast
50 g rice flour
1 tbsp veg oil
60-75 ml warm water
1 tbsp sugar

Directions:

Mix warm water, yeast, sugar and oil in a stand up mixer. Add flour and salt and knead for 5-7 min. Add more flour if dough is stick, it should be smooth, tender and firm (not sticky)

Cover and let it rise in a warm place for one hour until it doubles in size
In the meantime, mix the topping ingredients (add water gradually as you need to consistency to be more like a thick double cream). Cover and let it rest until the dough rises.
After the dough is double ins size cut into 8 pieces (or the size you want) and arrange on a baking sheet.

Use a brush to brush the topping mixture on top as a thick paste.

Let it rise for around 20-25 min until the oven is hot.
Preheat oven at 400 F or 200 c.
Bake until golden brown
Enjoy hot
